Learning
To tie my shoelaces
Was
One of the most difficult things
I have had to learn
Measuring
The right amount
Of
Lace
To make a bow
Learning
How
To precisely twist the lace
To prevent a knot
That would take longer
To undo
Than it did to make
Or
Tying them
Tight enough
To avoid
Tangling myself
In loosened laces
And
Tripping
Falling headfirst
Due to my haste
To complete
The task

Since
I have learned
To tie my shoelaces
The simplicity of it
Makes me wonder
Why
It had been
Difficult
To learn
Because
Loving you
Was not learned
It came
Simply
Without thought
Without trial
And
Its only difficulty
Is trying
To measure it
In adequate portions
So it will never
Run out

My thoughts
Often
Turn to you
Knowing that you struggle
To wade
Through oceans of diversions
Threatening to sink you
Like crushing waves
In to the needful lives of others

Who demand
You abandon
Your truest desires
And
Allow your spirit
To be buried
Beneath sands
On the floor
Of
A cold murky place
To be forgotten
But
I remember you
So
I cast out a net
Woven with positive intentions
To support
The steady ascent
Of
Your light
To
The surface
