ASCENT
January 26, 2012 by PhotoPoetics™
My thoughts
Often
Turn to you
Knowing that you struggle
To wade
Through oceans of diversions
Threatening to sink you
Like crushing waves
In to the needful lives of others

Who demand
You abandon
Your truest desires
And
Allow your spirit
To be buried
Beneath sands
On the floor
Of
A cold murky place
To be forgotten
But
I remember you
So
I cast out a net
Woven with positive intentions
To support
The steady ascent
Of
Your light
To
The surface

The last line truly is the culmination of the poem. As I read it I was physically drawn in and then released. Beautiful
Thanks Bonnie Michelle!
I hope the person I wrote this for has a similar experience.
He really does cast His net, always remembering we are there, to raise us up into His light, into His grace.
Granbee,
As a writer I sometimes forget that it is not my interpretation of my work that is most important, but what someone reading it finds.
I am happy that you are able to make such a strong connection to this piece.
lovely, God is good.
Maggie L R,
Your comment mirrors granbee’s expression of feeling connected to a higher power. I’m happy that my writing can have this incredible effect!
Beautiful,
I love the thought of a “net woven with positive intentions” 🙂

Thanks David!
I’m hoping that line delivers a lot of comfort.
Beautiful poem!
Thanks Francina!
Lovely! I didn’t read anything about God into this though, never crossed my mind someone would until I read the comments. As an artist myself I have always been fascinated and sometimes bewildered at things people have seen in what I have done…it’s part of the fun of it for me (and you?). People see in art and poetry what they want or need to at that particular time in their life. People think their interpretations of an artists work gives them a glimpse into the mind or life of the artist when in fact it gives us a glimpse into theirs. This is because often the artists meaning is so convoluted and personal unless they spell it out it’s not obvious…the reader (or viewers) interpretations however are much more obvious and direct.
Thanks Joeann.
What others see in my writing is definitely part of the fun for me 🙂
Love those words!!!
Thanks Dimitris!
