Learning
To tie my shoelaces
Was
One of the most difficult things
I have had to learn

Measuring
The right amount
Of
Lace
To make a bow

Learning
How
To precisely twist the lace
To prevent a knot
That would take longer
To undo
Than it did to make

Or

Tying them
Tight enough
To avoid
Tangling myself
In loosened laces
And
Tripping
Falling headfirst
Due to my haste
To complete
The task

Since
I have learned
To tie my shoelaces
The simplicity of it
Makes me wonder
Why
It had been
Difficult
To learn

Because

Loving you
Was not learned
It came
Simply
Without thought
Without trial
And
Its only difficulty
Is trying
To measure it
In adequate portions
So it will never
Run out

Candy floss
Colours
Coat
Morning skies
And
Rich
Creamsicle clouds
Call
To memory
Carnival days
When
The chime
Of
Children’s laughter
Was
Carried
Along
Gentle breezes
Like
Music
In to
The sunshine
Warmed
Air

Children’s energy is contagious.

She made me believe that it is never too late to have a happy childhood.

What do you believe?

Light
Broke through
The clouds
Permitting me
To glimpse
A bright patch of sky
Bursting with dreams
Written on the whispers of children
And
Floated in to the heavens
To paint
The arcs of rainbows

Careless
Is a five year old
Going out to play in new shoes
And
Returning
With them
Covered in mud

It is not
The cavalier manner
We apply
To
The habitual
Telling of untruths

It is not
The ease
With which
Some swoop in
To fragment
The bonds
Of
Newly minted affections

It is not
The promises
We make
With crossed fingers
While waiting
For
All expectation
To fade

Careless
Claims no devotions
And
Is a blunder
Only children
Can
Afford to make
