How was it love
When
I rarely
Put myself in your path
To encounter
The warmth
That
Radiated
From
The glow
Of
Your presence

How was it love
When
Without
My awareness
Your wholeness
Became broken
And
I
In oblivion
Failed to sense
That
You
Breathe
No more

How was it love
When
I lost you
Never knowing
That
You
Ceased to cling
To this world
As
It raced
Through its orbit
Around
A star
Whose brightness
Could not
Outshine
You

THE SHADY SIDE OF THE STREET

Walking
On
The shady side of the street
Cools me
As
The clip of my stride
Quickens
Pumping
Blood
Through
My body
At
A rate
That
Would cause
Other liquids
To boil

While
The leaves
Of
Canopying branches
Fan
My head
As
They are stirred
By
The same breezes
That
Dance
Between
My thoughts
