Men
Kiss lips
Without
Considering
The souls
They touch
The lives
They disrupt
Or
The hearts
That skip a beat
When
Men
Kiss lips
They pluck
The ripe fruit
Of
Women
Who
Upon arriving
At surrender’s gate
Have
The sweetness of their virtue
Sampled
And
The softness of their sensuality
Probed
By lustful hunger
And
A temporary longing
To be satisfied
When
Men
Kiss lips
They ignore
A woman’s open soul
As
It waits
For
The deeper exploration
Necessary
To uncover
Unfulfilled promises
That linger
On the edge
Of
Her destruction
Still hopeful
That the smoldering embers
That once burned bright
With optimism
Might be ignited
By the desire
In his lips
When
Men
Kiss lips
They apply pressure
To flesh
Leaving
Imprints of themselves
On the slopes of mouths
Never to be eroded
From
A woman’s memory
Even as she is propelled
From him
Through time
To
Another man’s kiss

I LOVE it. So true. We contemplate, analyze. Men just…kiss.
Women do contemplate the meaning behind kisses – and other things – because we are taught that simply doing it for the pleasure is somehow wrong.
I posit it depends upon the man you kiss. 😉 ..but enjoyed the verse.
I agree with you to a point…
enjoyed this very much

Thanks Leigh!
Depending on your perspective this poem can have a visceral effect. I first read it through the lens of the domestic violence victims I counsel, it literally made my skin crawl. Then I read it through my perspective, a married woman of 36 years, and thought I have never known a man who kissed like that!
Bonnie,
I’m glad you’ve never known a man who kissed like that 🙂
Not all men!!!
David
David,
Your outrage is acknowledged 🙂
This takes me back to my youth … evokes memories, which is what great art does. Excellent!
Thanks Denny!
This moves me so deeply.
I read this on my phone yesterday but was somehow not able to comment so hear I am again 😉
Ray,
Thanks for coming back to leave a comment.
I hope it moved you in a good way 🙂
In a very good way! 😉
We ladies DO remember all those kisses, even if only subconsciously! We are nurturers and are not designed to “let go”, are we! Outstanding post to express this!
granbee,
We do remember all the kisses.
I don’t believe we are designed not to let go. I believe we are taught not to let go.
All kisses or just the wet ones?
All kisses.
I like your poem because it brims with feeling and emotion. Do you indict all men, or only some?
Dave,
It’s not an indictment 🙂
Just some observations I’ve made.
Thank you for understanding my comment was not meant as a criticism. You describe an abhorrent, abusive behavior that needs to be exposed as you so powerfully do. If you have not already met a better kind of man, then I hope you will. They do exist.
Thanks Dave!
I’ve met some very good men in my life. However, as you point out there are some men out there that perpetrate “abhorrent, abusive behavior that needs to be exposed”.
Hopefully, this piece does make people (men and women) think about how we interact with each other.
So very true!
Indeed!
Women do this to men also. The kind who do this should team up.
Hattie,
Unfortunately, I do know women who do this too. However, having only experienced it with men that’s the only perspective from which I could write honestly.
Awesome suggestion by the way!!
Loved this one 🙂
Thanks Rasha!
