It’s loud
The silence
That
Meets me
When I merge
With
The morning crowd
Each person
Buffered
By
A zone
Of
Private contemplation
Numbing them
To the bodies
They
Press in to
Involuntarily co-mingling energy
With
Every breath exhaled
As
We
Tunnel through time
And
Transfer between moments
Interchanging
Bits
Of
Ourselves
Until
We are forced
Upon
Arrival
To break
The connection

The few times I’ve been on public transportation…this is much of what I felt.
Lucky for you to have only traveled on public transportation a few times. For many of us this is the main method of transportation. Over the years I’ve learned to use the time creatively. I’ve been writing on the subway since I was a teenager and I think I have now mastered the ability to block out all intrusions.
Excellent poem describing artificial connections between subway commuters! Very good metaphonr here for lots of other artificial connections amongst human kind around the planet!
Thank granbee!
A lot of my writing develops on the subway.
There are many commuters out there who are oblivious to the fact that they have been captured in my work 🙂
Great poem, like the photo as well. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for visiting!
I love how the poem ended. A person must get used to tuning out while in transit.
Definitely!
That is really cool.
Thanks Jason!
Love the photo and the poem.. Intersting that you choose to chop the sentencres into short words/pieces. I’m interested in your reasons for that?
Thanks Helen!
I rarely have anyone ask about the way I format my poems.
I write that way because I don’t use punctuation.
It’s my way of setting the cadence.
Another home run! I really don’t like baseball but I like the analogy!
Thanks Bonnie Michelle!
I don’t like baseball either, but that is a great analogy 🙂
I have been a commuter so i can relive the experience…
Better to relive it in writing 🙂
oh.. I really can relate to this poem
Very well expressed how we all are like sardines in a tin twice a day 🙂
Ciao, Francina
Thanks Francina!
It’s the price we pay for urbanization 🙂
Although, I think I prefer taking the subway – where I can use my time to read or write – to driving to and from work for hours each day.
me too …
Wonderful poem and image. You brought back commuting memories. 🙂
Thanks Robin!
I hope they weren’t traumatic memories 🙂
