With
The flash
Of
A self-conscious smile
I
Cautiously
Flirt
With life

Drinking it in
With
My eyes
I openly
Throw
Seductive glances
Across
The short distance
Dividing
Us
While
I
Construct clever lines
To bolster
My
Calculated attempts
To create
A coveted connection

I love this, and the first 8 lines are stunning. The poem could stop right there and be complete, but what follows adds wonderfully to the metaphor – of this flirtation with life, with reality.
Thank you Betty!
Very witty – loved the metaphor too!
Thanks Ladyfi!
I struggled with it for a while, but I’m happy with the end result 🙂
