Archive for the ‘Awards’ Category

It’s award season. I never watch awards shows. I figure I shouldn’t have to sit through 3 hours of over-the-top, scripted, rehearsed programming to learn who has been chosen by their peers to take home a statue. I know I sound jaded but I just can’t help thinking about the other things I could do with that time. I read the results after the shows are over, which takes about a whole 10 minutes.

On top of this, I’ve never understood the whole process behind each award. If only it could be this straightforward:

Francina at Seasons Poetry has nominated me for two blog awards, the ABC Blogger Award and the Genuine Blogger Award. She is a regular visitor to my site and she always leaves supportive comments. I appreciate every word of encouragement she has given to me.

Thank you for your support and for sharing my work with other bloggers in the WordPress community Francina!

I know they aren’t Oscars, Golden Globes or Grammys, but I feel more proud than any Hollywood star accepting these awards for my writing. I graciously accept both of these awards and now, unlike the Oscars, Golden Globes or Grammys, I get to pass them along to fellow bloggers.

The Genuine Blogger Award has no rules, which means that I don’t have to list any facts about myself and I get to pass it to anyone I like.

I would like to give this award to one blogger

Mark Sugden/Letters to Alfie @ http://letterstoalfie.wordpress.com/

The first time I read a post by Mark Sugden at Letters to Alfie I cried, not because it was sad, but because it was full of so much love for his son. Mark writes every post in the form of a letter to his son Alfie. I think it’s a wonderful way to let him know he is loved.

The ABC (Awesome Blog Content) Award is different. For this award, there is no limit to how many of your fellow bloggers you can honour. However, I must share some things about myself in alphabetical order, at least one word, or two starting with each letter of the alphabet. Here goes…

I am passing the ABC Award on to the following bloggers because I find their work interesting and inspiring, each for different reasons. I hope you enjoy them too.

1. Bucket List Publications @ http://lesleycarter.wordpress.com/
2. Rubicorno @ http://rubicorno.wordpress.com/
3. Uprooted Magnolia @ http://leahyetter.wordpress.com/
4. MariAnne MacGregor @ http://mariannemacgregor.wordpress.com/
5. FBSIGN @ http://fbsign.wordpress.com/
6. The Right Mood @ http://therightmood.wordpress.com/
7. shpics/Stuart Hyde @ http://shpics.wordpress.com/
8. Helen’s Journal @ http://helensjournal.wordpress.com/
9. vera til @ http://veratil.wordpress.com/

If you’re like me and don’t watch the awards shows I hope you’re still able to enjoy awards season.

Thanks again to Francina!

My year has started on a high note!

Thanks to Francina at Seasons Poetry for nominating my site for the Kreativ Blogger Award!

Last summer when I changed the format of this blog, I didn’t think I would have many readers let alone receive awards – because who reads poetry? Well, it turns out that there are a lot of poetry readers and lovers out there and some of them enjoy my work.

Rules of the Award:

This award comes with responsibility. I like to think of it as paying it forward. I see a lot creativity across WordPress daily so it’s going to be hard to choose just six other bloggers to nominate. However before I make the nominations, I have to reveal ten things no one knows about me so here goes

Ten Things

1. The African violet I received for my birthday a few years ago is still alive – just barely.
2. I sometimes read the dictionary because the etymology of words fascinates me.
3. I went for a walk in the park one night while it was snowing and it was one of the most magical experiences of my life.
4. I wish I had taken ballet classes when I was a child.
5. I might have undiagnosed OCD.
6. I consider my friends members of my family.
7. I’ve kept just about every piece of poetry I’ve written since I was 15.
8. I love playing Scrabble – it might actually be an addiction.
9. The only constellation I can identify is the Big Dipper.
10. I am a romantic, although not always hopeless.

Nominations

1. Typewriter Poetry /Billimarie @ http://typewriterpoetry.wordpress.com/
2. V. S. Bjorge @ http://vsbjorge.wordpress.com/
3. The Bunny Adventures @ http://thebunnyadventures.wordpress.com/
4. I wish I was a little bit taller… @ http://gwhang.wordpress.com/
5. Eden’s Captures @ http://adventuresinpointingandshooting.wordpress.com/
6. What. No Mints? @ http://whatnomints.wordpress.com/

Thanks again to Francina.

I wish the best for everyone in the year ahead.
